As I walked out of the hospital yesterday afternoo

As I walked out of the hospital yesterday afternoon, I took in the people walking and cars driving and thought to myself, “Isn’t it crazy how they don’t even know the most beautiful gift was just given and worlds were changed?”

But first I’ll back up. At the end of 2022, Maggie contacted me asking me to shoot a birth the following year. She would be acting as a surrogate for a couple from Israel (Shay & Roi), and they would be traveling here (Minnesota) for the birth. Of course I said yes.

In 2023, Maggie, supported by her husband Mack, gave birth to a beautiful baby boy named Orr. He came quickly in the middle of the night, and despite booking it to the hospital, I arrived shortly after he’d been born.

But it didn’t matter. The energy and love in that room was palpable and beautiful and unlike anything I’d experienced prior. A few weeks later, I did another photo session with Maggie, Mack, and their two girls, together with Shay, Roi and Orr.

I felt so honored to be part of something so beautiful and knew I’d carry it with me throughout my career and life.

Fast forward to early 2024, and Maggie reached out again to say she would be carrying a second baby for Shay and Roi, and asked me to capture it a second time.

Yesterday morning I got a text from Mack saying that the baby was coming. This time I made it to the hospital in time. I could say so much…but I think many of these images speak for themselves.

Leaving the hospital yesterday and observing so many people continuing with their lives without knowing what beauty had just unfolded…it made me realize that every day, I am one of those unknowing humans, because there is always something miraculous unfolding somewhere in this world. And sometimes, you’re just lucky enough to be part of the experience.

There’s always something special about capturing

There’s always something special about capturing people you love deeply. @samantha.aabel and I didn’t have the smoothest start to our relationship in college, but in a way that’s made me cherish our friendship and our children’s friendship even more. Life is funny and beautiful and full circle. 🫶🏻
